Goodness, a blog? By me? For whom?? Me, again, I suppose. I stumbled at the first hurdle - what name do I give my blog, which is bound to become quite special to me? Surely it needs to be a title that gives the reader an insight in to the writer, but in this case since both are me I just wanted to mention some of my favourite things.
My favourite favourite things are buttons. I love buttons. But I didn't want the blog to sound too cutesy. I used to be cute, when I was younger, but now that I am newly 30 (I also love birthdays so getting older doesn't phase me in the slightest because it means I get to have more birthdays) I haven't been cute in about ten years so thought against drawing the cute-as-a-button opinion from anyone who might happen to stumble upon these ramblings. I also love tea, crochet, books, rainy days - is this what you do here, list the things you like in the hope that the hapless reader might be attracted by the recognisable comfort of certain words and continue to follow you (me) along an inevitably windy (not windy, windy - that has always made me laugh) and probably bumpy path? I suppose I should state here that not only am I new to the world of blog writing, but also to the world of blogs... I just never understood why anyone would be so interested in the life of a stranger that they would spend their time reading faceless tales. But, then I came to the realisation that I have almost nothing in common with most of my closest friends so perhaps here I will find some like minded beings, and if the like-mindedness is the sought after ingredient, then faces don't matter so much, do they? And I should probably take a more proactive approach to finding these people, so I suppose I will now being trawling the internet for favourite blogs. I do have one - TheHouseOfHearts.com - it's my friend Crystal's blog. She's just lovely and a huge source of inspiration for me (to me?). Crystal - let me know if you happen to see this. And if anyone at all happens upon this please note - warm encouragement is welcome!
I have clumsily reached a place to now explain the title I decided upon - a bookcase quilt. I love books, but everyone does so you just sound like a pretentious wank when you say something like that, don't you? It seems to have a sub-text of 'I love books therefore I must be so smart and clever and by telling you I love books you all know how smart and clever I am' but everyone I have ever known who had the privelege of The Bedtime Story loves books. And we love everything about them. Not just the stories contained within but the actual physical books. I love to have lots of books around my house, always, and in the past my littlest hobo ways have prevented me from displaying books (but I always had too many and came up with clever ways to conceal my precious load from the suspicious eyes of airport staff wanting to decrease my luggage weight). Bookcases, to me, are like big, giant, comfortable, warmly welcoming blankets. Bookcases filled with books like look quilts, slowly stitched together over years and years of careful selection and collection.
So, A Bookcase Quilt is my happy place.
